| Happy Xmas (Pop Idol War is Nearly Over) |
| It's Saturday December 20th 2003, the night when the UK's second Pop Idol will be crowned. And the question on everyone's lips is: Will it be Mark Rhodes or Michelle McManus? |
| It couldn't be closer; Michelle is the bookie's favourite but only just. The Sun's reader poll also had Michelle out in front but with Mark gaining steadily. ITV's This Morning viewer poll began the week with Michelle leading, but ended with Mark on top. In other words, no-one knows! |
| Both Michelle and Mark have strong fan bases and lots of local following back home, however the outcome will most likely be decided by the floating voters who up till now have been backing the contestants like Sam who made a shock exit from the contest last week. |
| After a heady week touring the country in their 'battle buses' the final two will need to pull out all the stops in order to impress the viewers and hopefully net that amazing £2million record deal. |
Tonight they will both perform 3 numbers:
- They will be singing their own choice of all the songs they have sung during the final 12 phase of the contest.
- Each will sing "All This Time", the A-side of the single they will release if they are successful tonight.
- Mark and Michelle will also perform their alternative B-sides for the single.
|
They both seem happy with the single; on last night's Pop Idol Extra (ITV2) Michelle told Kate "Both (our) versions are really good, totally different because my style of singing and Mark's style of singing are different, but you know what...they sound really good either way."
She also likes the fact that they will be singing new material "It's great for us this time to go out and not have to worry about being compared to someone else...did you sing it like Aretha?...did you do it like Bono?...it's good for us to just go out and just say we did it like Mark and Michelle." |
| The ITV show tonight is a marathon 2hrs 45mins long, but it won't all be singing of the highest standards. The tension will be broken by some of the worst singing you have heard all year when some of the flop-idols from the audition stage return for their own mini-contest the outcome of which will be decided by the studio audience. Breathtaking TV! |
