Roxanne meets Lily and Mel
Sparkly Roxanne's exit on Saturday was the latest Pop Idol shocker. Roxanne was a little tearful when the result was announced but she was back to her normal happy self today when she appeared on ITV1's 'Today with Des and Mel'.
Paul O'Grady (the alter-ego of Lily Savage), who was standing in for Des today, asked Roxy how she felt about leaving the show. She was refreshingly honest "I was a bit upset on Saturday, but I'm fine now...I did know that it wasn't my best performance on the night, I knew I'd done better before, so I wasn't very pleased with myself, but you know you have got to go sometime."
Melanie Sykes asked Roxanne if she agreed with some of the judges who thought that she didn't go through because people thought she didn't need their vote since she would do well in the business anyway. "I don't know...I think that's good...I take that as a compliment really."
"But in reality though, you wanted to win the competition..." probed Mel.
Roxanne agreed "yeah...that's what you go in for, you do want to win the competition...but if the public are thinking that I'm okay because of what I'm doing, well that's alright I think!".
Paul asked what it's like after the show; did she go into the dressing room thinking 'I hate them all!'? He said if it was him he'd be in there with a chainsaw! He had Roxanne in tucks of laughter. Apparently after Saturday's show there was a little party arranged at the Wembley studios for Roxanne's supporters. "It was good...I was a bit upset but I was happy to see all my friends and family."
Paul complimented Roxy on the maturity of her voice. Had she had any singing lessons? She revealed that she actually started dancing first, going to ballet at around the age of 4 or 5. It wasn't until around the age of 13 that she really started singing.
On the topic of pre-performance nerves Roxanne described how all the contestants suffer. Laughing with embarrassment, she spoke of last minute dashes to the toilet and a sick-bucket located beside the stage in case anyone needs to use it before they go on. Roxanne said she herself was sick after her performance on the first week and Michelle needed to use the bucket before performing on Saturday!
Roxanne really wants Michelle to win Pop Idol because "she's brilliant, she fantastic...she is different and she's got a great personality, she's like my big sister." However she thinks Sam might win it, "he's got everything, he's a little rocker."
On the judges Roxanne said "I love Nicki to bits, she's really nice". She had her first proper chat with Simon only a couple of weeks ago "He's really nice...he gives us a load of advice. I really like him!"
Yes and Paul and Mel really took a shine to Roxanne "She's on the Yellow-Brick Road to fame this girl, I tell ya!" , enthused Paul, winding up their chat. If the press rumours about a £1million record deal with Simon Fuller are true, she'll soon be racing down that road on full throttle!
