| In the 'final 50' heats Lanarkshire lassie Michelle's 31.4% public vote was the highest to be polled by any of the contestants . She has a beautiful tone to her voice and a natural singer. |
 | Like fellow contestant Kim, Michelle's weight has been a topic of debate. She has lost over two stones since the audition and at times has had to brave some rather too near the knuckle remarks from the panelists, including Foxy who once told Michelle that viewers might change the channel if they saw her on a pop video. Glasgow MP Jim Sheridan has even gone so far as to condemn such jibes against Michelle as "irresponsible" in a parliamentary statement. |
| Happily, Michelle has a champion in Simon Cowell. On GMTV on 10 October Simon rated Michelle, saying she's got a good chance of winning and adding that she has something special about her, "I don't know what it is, I can't place it but you just warm to her, she's great!" |
| Michelle seems to be really enjoying the whole experience, "I'm in Pop Idol now to win it" she said, "Hopefully I will go all the way". |

| Michelle's song choice (the 1980 Donna Summer classic 'On The Radio') really suited her and she gave a confident performance. As she commented afterwards to Ant and Dec she was even "giving it a bit of booty shaking"! Looking good in her black leather skirt ant top she must have been eager for a bit of fashion approval from Foxy and Nicki after their comments last week. |
| Foxy began on a negative "Honestly what you're wearing and the way you present yourself tonight, no way pop-idol." (boos for Foxy!) But contined on a positive "You sound every inch pop-idol tonight." (cheers for Foxy!) |
| Nicki liked what she saw, "a bit of a disco diva coming through tonight, and you looked far more comfortable this week than I've seen you in a long time Michelle." |
| Pete had no reservations, "Great song Michelle... I noticed the Glaswegian accent came out really strongly there... good!" |
| Simon added the icing to the cake "Michelle you have that ability...the audience here adore you, you can always entertain them." |
| Simon even challenged Foxy's comments, "Foxy you can't keep going on about Michelle's appearance because we've known what she was from day one." Foxy asked Simon if people will buy into Michelle's image. Simon hit back "You should have said that five weeks ago. The point is you've got to judge her now on her song." |
| Michelle thanked the valliant Simon as she might thank a knight in shining armour! |
| 25.10.2003: After a frustrating week when she was unable to rehearse due to a throat infection, Michelle received mixed reactions from the judges after singing her version of Celine Dion's 'All By Myself' (originally recorded by Eric Carmen). |
| Foxy seemed more bothered by her dress sense, "I really don't like what you're wearing tonight, it does you no favours whatsoever…You have a great voice, I found that a boring performance but a great voice." Nicki also remarked on her outfit, "you could be wearing that to go shopping", but she also said "Good control, beautiful voice". Pete acknowledged "…you've been ill this week and that does make a difference" , he thought that her personality didn't come through as well as in previous rounds. Simon remarked after the show that he found her performance "disappointing". |
| Talking to Kate Thornton after the performances, Michelle was curious about Foxy's reaction, "I really offended him with my outfit, I don't know why...maybe it's because he wanted to borrow my last one and this one didn't go with his wardrobe!" |
| 13.09.2003: When Michelle sang Dina Carroll's 'Don't Be A Stranger' she really wowed the public, she received a whopping 31.4% of the public vote to gain entry into the final 12. |
