Leon was eliminated from the competition in the first of the final shows (25.10.2003)
Known for being quiet, 20 year old Leon has a voice that demands to be heard. Leon is a Fashion student but works as a cleaner to pay his passage, he survives on a few hours sleep each day so it's little wonder that when we first saw him in the early auditions he was complaining of feeling tired.
Leon took his expulsion from the show in his stride. With refreshing honesty he told Kate Thornton after the show, "I'm surprised I've got this far...I'm glad. All I wanted to do was to get to the final fifty where somebody could see me and I've got futher than that."
Nicki Chapman who has supported Leon throughout the competition said of him "I Think Leon's got a really good attitude and that speaks volumes.... I think if you're talented as a musician and also want to get into fashion, you can cross both of those ...he can go on to do what he wants to do."
Interestingly when Kate Thornton asked Leon what his next step would be, he whispered something into Nicki's ear, then she replied for him saying "we might have some news on that", but did not elaborate. It sounds as though something good could be coming Leon's way!
25.10.2003: Leon performed Stevie Wonder's "I Just Called To Say I Love You". Simon thought his singing was flat and all of the judges predicted that he would be eliminated. Leon seemed to take it in his stride when the result was announced.
04.10.2003 Leon sang Michael Jackson's 'You are not alone' tonight. He came out on top of what by many was regarded as the weakest heat, with 22.6% of the vote. Leon seems to be growing in confidence as the competition unfolds and his performance tonight demonstrated that.
