Chris Hide

Age: 18
From : Lancing, Sussex
Star Sign: Gemini
Chris was entered into the Pop Idol competition by a friend, but is glad to have entered, even though he has found the auditions nerve-racking.
Chris made a big impression at the early auditions. The first impression he gave to the panel (or at least to Foxy) was that of a vicar, a label which has stuck with him throughout the series. He sees a positive side to this though, as he told his local newspaper 'The Argus' "I'm glad if I looked different because it obviously made an impact. They remembered me and I think it went in my favour."
The second impression was when he began to sing. His talent is undeniable and he has a really powerful and effortless voice. Chris has since coasted into the final 12 by consistently wowing the public with his vocal intensity.
Chris is a former student at Boundstone College in Lancing, where he was a tenor in the choir and also played saxaphone in a band.
01.11.2003 (Theme: Songs From Your Birthyear)
Wearing a zippy denim shirt Chris put some zip into his rendition of the 1985 Bryan Adams Song 'Heaven'.
Overall, the comments from the panel were quite good. However, Foxy's words had the audience groaning and left Chris feeling perplexed. After refering to Chris's fans as his 'congregation and vicarage' Foxy said "No doubt you've got a great voice but I just feel a bit awkward watching you, I don't know why...you make me feel a tad awkward."
Nicki had no such reservations, she praised his sensational voice and said "I think this week we actually got a real emotion from you when you sang and that's the first time it all fitted together.".
The greatest plaudit came from Pete, "on behalf of the old age pensionsers of Britain, we love you!".
Simon threatened to dampen Chrs's ardour, "I personally don't think that song was right for you", but after declaring "I wish I could be more positive tonight" he was cajoled into a change of mind "Erm, it was fantastic!" he exclaimed.
What a big softie that Simon Cowell is!
25.10.2003: Chris's intensity levels were up as he sang Elton John's "Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me" and he impressed the judges, especially Pete who told him "I could sit here and listen to you sing all night long." Chris found the audience helped calm his nerves tonight, he told Kate Thornton "When Roxanne was on I was actually shaking...but then you get out there...you see the audience and it's actually a lot better".
13.09.2003: Chris belted the Boyz II Men classic 'End Of The Road' , impressing the judges with his new look and also impressing at least 19.3% of the public who voted him into the final 12.
