The Pop Idol Final - December 20th 2003
20 Dec 2003: Congratulations to Michelle - Winner of Pop Idol 2003!

Marvellous Michelle has consistently amazed the public with her brilliant voice and personality. She truly is a worthy successor to Will Young.

Mark performed great tonight too, but the dignified runner-up was the first to acknowledge that Michelle edged it on the night.

It was TV paradise, two and three quarter hours of the beautiful best and wonderfully wacky worst of the phenomenon that is 'Pop Idol'.

The Final Three - December 13th 2003 (Judges Night)
13 Dec 2003: Tonight was showdown for the final three and just like last week Mark, Michelle and Sam each sang two songs.

The theme was 'Judges Night' because the judges chose tonight's songs and they picked some cracking numbers. Here's tonight's play list...

Sam Nixon
  • Maggie May (Rod Stewart)
  • Always (Bon Jovi)
Michelle McManus
  • Say A Little Prayer (Aretha Franklin)
  • Without You (Harry Nilsson)
Mark Rhodes
  • Back For Good (Take That)
  • If You Don’t Know Me By Now (Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes)

OMG! The bookmakers have got it wrong again and tonight's result is another shock!

The Final Four - December 6th 2003 (Christmas Songs)
06 Dec 2003:

Tonight's theme was Christmas! It was an uplifting show tonight and great to hear 11 of the pop idol finalists singing their Christmas single Happy Xmas (War Is Over)! It's a great song with great sentiments, let's hope they come true one day!

Then came the sad bit in the results show...saying goodbye to Chris. He has really entertained all the way through the series.

Thankfully it won't be the last we see of Chris or the other finalists. During tonight's results show the Pop Idol tour was announced. The full tour schedules can be found at the official ITV Pop Idol site.

Oh and the judges all got their predictions wrong, nice to see they're back to their normal form!

Show 6 - November 29th 2003 (Big Band Night)
29 Nov 2003: Tonight's show began with Ant and Dec trumpeting away...goodness gracious! How do they allow things like that to go out before 9pm?

On the plus side we knew things could only get better because tonight's theme is the Big Band sound and the Pop Idol hopefuls are really going to be put to the test.

The five contestants were paraded onstage, all done up to the nines...but after nine tonight which of them would be done in?...

Show 5 - November 22nd 2003 (Beatles Night)
22 Nov 2003: With tonight being Pop Idol's 'Beatles Night' we knew we were guaranteed wall-to-wall quality songs. We also hoped for some quality performances and we weren't disappointed.

The only question mark hanging over tonights show was the biggest one...who would be departing tonight? The finalists are so evenly matched now it's almost impossible to predict. Having been surprised so many times in recent weeks, we now expect to be surprised...and unsurprisingly we were!

Show 4 - November 15th 2003 (Disco Night)
15 Nov 2003: It was Disco Fever in the Pop Idol studios tonight and the final seven really found their groove. So did Ant and Dec, we loved their groovy dance moves whenever that word 'D.I.S.C.O.' was mentioned throughout the show.

Yes and Pete Waterman looked very flattered when Ant and Dec announced that he has been nominated for a 'Living Legend award'...by Age Concern!

Another shock result, the bookies' favourite of yesterday has left the contest!...

Show 3 - November 8th 2003 (Elton John Songs)
08 Nov 2003: Yet another eventful Pop Idol night. It's so hard to call the outcome these days, which makes it all the more exciting. The contestants week was exciting too, especially when an unexpected guest suddenly arrived.

The theme for tonights show is Elton John songs and during the week the producers decided to spring a pleasant surprise on the young popsters. An impromptu visit to their rehearsal studio by none other than the man Elton himself!

Show 2 - 1st November 2003 (Birthyear Songs)
01 Nov 2003: The Pop Idol contestants are now installed in an incredible £multi-million mansion. They have a jacuzzi and an ice-making machine at their disposal , and they were all hoping they would cut the ice on stage this evening!

Tonights theme was 'Songs From Your Birthyear'. Each student had to pick a song that was a hit in the year they were born, and the song choices definitely had an influence on tonights result.

Brian Ormond chose a song few people are familiar with and Marc Dillon's song didn't really suit his voice. They have both given good performances recently, making their departure even more of a shock. With the predictions of the tabloids and the bookmakers going to pot, it's now becoming clear that this years Pop Idol competition is wide open.

Although the overall standard of performance was lower than last week's there were still some great performances. Roxanne Cooper performed with a poise and confidence that belies her young years, Andy Scott-Lee set himself a challenging song and showed he was up to that challenge and Michelle McManus closed the night with a vocal performance that showed the voting public what she's made of.

Show 1 - 25th October 2003 (Songs of your Pop Idol)
25 Oct 2003: It's the first big night on the big stage. There are over five hundred people in the studio audience and for many of the contestants it is the first time they've played to an audience of this size, not forgetting the millions glued to their sets all over Britain.
