Sam Nixon
09 May 2008: Sam has made it through to the final 12 by winning the wildcard show, but the combination of his voice, his enthusiasm and cheeky grins have catapulted him into the front running. Sam's also a bit of a Jamie Oliver. He kept his promise of baking a cake for all the finalists, and they all seemed to approve.

Chris Hide
09 May 2008: Chris made a big impression at the early auditions. The first impression he gave to the panel (or at least to Foxy) was that of a vicar, a label which has stuck with him throughout the series. He sees a positive side to this though, as he told his local newspaper 'The Argus' "I'm glad if I looked different because it obviously made an impact. They remembered me and I think it went in my favour."

09 May 2008: Roxanne the baby of the Pop Idol bunch was a student at the Hull College of Musical Theatre before entering the competition and according to her lecturer, quoted on the college's website, "She definitely has the 'X Factor', and although she is a very down to earth person she has a sparkling personality which has made her very popular with other students."

09 May 2008: Andy is originally from Bodelwyddan in North Wales. His celebrity connections are well known. His sister is Lisa Scott-Lee of Steps fame and his girlfriend is Michelle Heaton of Liberty X. Prior to Pop Idol Andy had some success along with his older brother Steve and younger borhter Anthony in the boy band 3SL (guess what SL stands for!), which was managed by Lisa.

09 May 2008: Kim is out to challenge the idea of 'what is a pop-idol'? She's a mum of 3 and a bit larger than the norm but has consistently impressed with her singing talents. In the early auditions Simon Cowell branded tongue-studded Kim as having no personality, but he has admitted he was wrong and calls her fantastic!

Marc Dillon
09 May 2008: Scot Marc, originally from Livingston in West Lothian, is a confident performer with a great voice and a great image. He is well remembered for his emotional reaction upon reaching the final. Touchingly Marc cried out for his Mum, who was abroad in Spain and whom he feared may have missed the show. Since then he's had a few ribbings about those tears but happily he finds it quite amusing himself!

09 May 2008: Brian, who was brought up around Dublin has the boy band looks and some boy band experience too, having spent two years with as a member of 24/7. He's also put those looks to good use as a 'celebrity' model with Dublin based model agency Compton.

She had already earned a place at Birmingham University to study medicine before she applied for Pop Idol, which has been put on hold as a result of her success in the show. (Kirsty has had an offer to continue her studies confirmed for next year)

09 May 2008: Known for being quiet, 20 year old Leon has a voice that demands to be heard. Leon is a Fashion student but works as a cleaner to pay his passage, he survives on a few hours sleep each day so it's little wonder that when we first saw him in the early auditions he was complaining of feeling tired.
